very good question - i thought about the same thing - although it would be a pretty big coincidence but it is very possible.
I had asked that question yesterday. (See: Where is the 4th Suspect).
It answers the question of how the blood got into the trunk/boot (and why).
However, what are the odds that the McCann's would rent the very car that had been used to abduct their daughter. That is the biggest hurdle for accepting this scenario.
