  • Help with Rental Cars in Nashville TN?

I have never rented a car before and either then calling and reserving the car. Is there anything I need to bring with me like proof of insurance and will my accident record have any influence on the rental price?Help with Rental Cars in Nashville TN?
Bringing proof of insurance is always a good idea; make sure that you check into any coverages that you may already have through your own insurace, because the car rental company will offer to sell you several coverages.

Your accident record will not have any influence on the rental price, but most car rental companies terms and conditions state that your rental is usually ';subject to a drivers license check';; they have certain common criteria that they look at, and certain items can cause them to refuse you a rental car. These include:

    %26lt;strong%26gt;invalid, suspended or revoked license

One or more convictions for reckless driving%26lt;/strong%26gt; within a

certain time frame (as determined by the individual rental company.

%26lt;strong%26gt;failure to report/leave scene of accident%26lt;/strong%26gt; within a certain time frame (as determined by the individual rental company)

%26lt;strong%26gt;possession of stolen vehicle or use of a vehicle in a crime

How much do rental cars cost in the UK?

my fiance and i want to hoenymoon in the UK, mostly scotland, but we're not sure how we'd get around! lol. i know there's public trnasportation, but i'm not sure how much it'd cost to rent a car, or to take a train places. we plan on visting ireland, england, and wales briefly during our 2 week honeymoon. any idea on the best way to get around and how much it'd cost?

don't know if this would help me much, but we're from the US.

thanks!! ^-^How much do rental cars cost in the UK?
Having your own transport would be much more convenient than relying on public transport.

There are regular train and coach services between the major towns and cities but public transport in the UK leaves a lot to be desired. It's not known for being reliable with services often late and sometimes not running at all. Local public transport is even worse and rural areas aren't at all well served. If you're going to Scotland and away from the major population centres then you definiitely need your own transport.

There's many places where you can rent a car from including the big international companies such as Hertz and Avis. These tend to be more expensive than other places but you can make reservations in advance and they have branches in the major airports. For a fairly standard, average sized family saloon you'd be looking at about 拢300 a week ($600), you could probably get a discount for a two week booking and perhaps be looking at about 拢500 ($1000). Larger vehicles such as SUV's (we call them four wheel drives over here) and people carriers could be double that price, a small compact car would be about half the price.

You can book in advance over the phone, vie websites or through your local branch. If you turn up and book in person then have your drivers license, passport and credit card to hand.

Some things to check when booking...

    - Does the price include VAT (sales tax).

    - Is there a mileage limit and if there is how much do you pay if you go beyond the limit.

    - Are you liable for an excess and if so how much extra is it to reduce or waive it (CDW).

    - Is breakdown cover included, usually it is but some companies charge extra.

    - If there's a problem can you go to any branch and exchange the vehicle, normally with the big companies you can.

    - Are you restricted to the UK mainland only, you may want to visit some of the islands - especially the Scottish ones.

    - Do age restrictions apply, different companies set different rules with 18, 21 or 25 being the usual minimum ages.

    - Are there any license restrictions, some companies require the driver(s) to have held a license for x number of years.

    - Can you add additional drivers (if applicable) and does it cost extra.

If you go to this website http://www.travelsupermarket.com/travelm鈥?/a> you only need enter details once and it gives you the deals from lots of different companies.

    -----------

My personal recommendation - don't spend too long in any one place, there's lots to see and do in the UK and to get the most from your holiday you'll need to do quite a bit of travelling. London is excellent for history, nightlife, attractions and Scotland is perfect for getting away from it all - the Highlands and Islands are a must see. In Ireland you'll meet the friendliest people imaginable. In fact, anywhere out of the big towns and cities you'll be made warmly welcome.

Best wishes for your wedding and the honeymoon. How much do rental cars cost in the UK?

What other options besides rental cars are there for getting around Puerto Vallarta, Mexico ?
Well taxis is your best choice. But if you like to have fun while you get from point A to point B take the buses they are cheap and fun. I live in PV if you have some more questions let me know at juancs10@yahoo.com.mx
The only thing that you have to avoid is getting on the Vallarta Adventures bus. Its a tourist trap that charges you like triple to see all the sites. However, the local buses such as: ATM and Compostela are pretty good and dirt cheap.
besides taxis, buses and aquatic cab, biking is easy and fun!
Gosh if your staying close to the board walk you can just walk to many places.

Taxi's are very cheap 3-4 dollars to get around most places but if your going from the South to say the airport might be $ 20

You could rent a Scooter or one of the ';Things'; Volkswagon...

If you have not been there before the traffic isn't for the faint of heart. I would see what you think 1st before committing for a car...
My husband and I went 2years ago it is a very beautiful place we mostly walked half of the time, there's so much to see but when we needed to get to downtown we went on a taxi and the fare was pretty cheap not at all expensive. Hope you have fun.
taxis will be your best bet if you don;t speak the language,,,if you do..buses will do fine..and cheaper..buss es stop service around 11pm...
I would never rent a car in Puerto Vallarta. IN the city the street are crazy. Taxis and bus are easily accessible. If you don't mind walking depending where are are staying Puerto Vallarta is a good walking city.
    Tichur has it right!
Puerto Vallarta is blessed with fine transportation. I use the busses regularly. The Centro ones take you north to WalMart and there you may catch an ATM bus to northern communities like Bucer铆as and Sayulita. Or, in town you can catch the Mismaloya or Boca de Tomatlan bus to head south past Conchas Chinas. Price are very low.

The taxi service if good. I caution you to set the price to where you are going before you settle in the car. Tips agree optional depending upon service. There are zones which are regulated by price but one never knows, so ask before engaging!!

Your talking about the Drive away program. To my knowledge that was done by dealers in the 60's and 70's for people in rural area's the ordered cars from a dealer and wanted it delivered to their homes. I do not know of any company's that do this anymore. one of the good things about it is it allowed the car to be driven a good distance before the owner received it. Allowing the DRIVE AWAY agent to evaluate the car to make sure everything worked correctly with it. with the QA of most automakers and the ease of recalls this practice is often no longer done. Not to mention the liability that is involved with it.

SEF 27 is legal liability coverage for damage to non-owned vehicles. This information is from an Alberta government website.

Why has your insurance broker not explained the coverages, which should all be listed by name in your policy, not just number?

As a retired Manitoba broker, I can tell you I never let a policy holder leave without having an explanation of the basics of his policy. I can also tell you it went in one ear ona out the other for many people. More than once the signature on the application was used to protect brokers from accusations that limits or charges for optional coverages were never explained. This is the problem with on-line coverages. 9 times out of 10 the person on the phone is not licenced at all, which is why you are occasionally referred, right at the end, to a licenced broker, or, more often, the person is only a level 1 broker, working in a boiler room with several level one brokers, under the supervision of a level 2 or 3 broker. What does Canadian Direct Insurance (Alberta) Auto SEF CDI 1 Travel Protection cover me for? US Rental Cars?
CDI is a direct writing company, which means they sell insurance over the phone or via the web directly to the public. The chances of a CDI representative being a part of Yahoo Answers is pretty much zero. Since the majority of us who answer here are brokers, and would not have access to CDI wordings, the only way you're going to get an answer is to call CDI and ask them. While this should have been explained to you when you purchased the policy direct writers are not really service oriented. Their goal is to write as many policies as possible as quickly as possible, so unless you ask the person you talk to on the phone isn't really going to volunteer much information as they have to move on to the next call. An insurance broker is all about service. When you walk into their office (imagine that! a real office!) it's their opportunity to shine and the way they do this is to make sure you walk out with as much knowledge as possible. So on your next renewal remember: it's not always about price.

Cheap fair for One way rental cars?

We need to rent a car to get from one airport to another in NC. We would only have the car for about 4 hours. It will be a one way rental. Any suggestions on how to get a very cheap price on that?Cheap fair for One way rental cars?
It's hard to find cheap one way rates! Generally the only time you can get it really cheaply, is if the rental car company has a vehicle that they want taken to the other location. You can call a local company to see if this is something they would need, however they often do not know in advance that they will have a vehicle dropped off from another city.

When trying to find the best rates, make sure to do a lot of comparison shopping and book as far in advance as you can! You can try using a discount code, if you qualify, that may help discount your rate. • Does Geico Car insurance cover Rental Cars?

Does Geico car insurance cover rental cars? Or does it JUST cover your car that you have insured w. them?Does Geico Car insurance cover Rental Cars?
When renting a car, you need insurance. If you have adequate insurance on your own car, including collision and comprehensive, this may be enough.

    Before you rent a car:

    * Contact your insurance company

Find out how much coverage you have on your own car. In most cases, the coverage and deductibles you have on your personal auto policy would apply to a rental car, providing it鈥檚 used for pleasure and not business. If you don鈥檛 have comprehensive and collision coverage on your own car, you will not be covered if your rental car is stolen or if it is damaged in an accident.

    * Call your credit card company

Find out what insurance your card provides. Levels of coverage vary.

If you don鈥檛 have auto insurance, you will need to buy coverage at the car rental counter. The following coverages are available to you at the rental car counter:

    * Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

Sometimes called a Loss Damage Waiver (LDW), this coverage relieves you of financial responsibility if your rental car is damaged or stolen. The CDW may be void, however, if you cause an accident by speeding, driving on unpaved roads or driving while intoxicated. This coverage generally costs between $9 and $19 a day. If you have comprehensive and collision on your own car, you may not need to purchase this coverage. (Note: In New York, collision damage is already included in the rental price and rental car companies are not permitted by law to charge extra for the CDW. New York also restricts the liability of drivers to $100.)

    * Liability Insurance

This provides excess liability coverage of up to $1 million for the time you rent a car. Rental companies are required by law to provide the minimum level of liability insurance required by your state. Generally, this does not offer enough protection in a serious accident. If you have adequate liability coverage on your car or an umbrella policy on your home/auto, you may consider forgoing this additional insurance. It generally costs about $7 to $9 a day. If you don鈥檛 own a car, and rent cars often, consider purchasing a non-owner liability policy. This costs approximately $200 - $300 per year. Frequent car renters sometimes find this more cost-effective than constantly paying for the extra liability coverage.

    * Personal Accident Insurance

This provides coverage to you and your passengers for medical/ambulance bills. This type of insurance, usually costs about $3 per day, but may be unnecessary if you are covered by health insurance or have adequate medical coverage under your auto policy.

    * Personal Effects Coverage

This provides coverage for the theft of personal items in your car. However, if you have homeowners or renters insurance, you may be covered for items stolen from the car, minus your deductible. You need to have receipts or other proof of ownership. This type of insurance usually costs about $1.25 per day.

Some rental car companies combine personal accident and personal effects coverage together as one type of insurance, while others sell it individually.

The cost of insurance at the rental car counter will vary depending on the rental car company, state, and location of the dealer and the type of car you rent.

Some rental car companies may check your credit and driving history and may deny coverage. Check with the rental car company to find out its policy.

  • Do rental cars need inspection stickers?

I am from NH and rented a car for a vacation. I didn't want to put all those miles on my own car. It had RI plates and I noticed there had been no inspection stickers on any of their cars. They had different state plates on all of them. I was just curious if they are required to have inspection stickers? I was just curious what would have happened had I been stopped with having a license from a different state than on the car and with no inspection sticker. Thanks....Do rental cars need inspection stickers?
If the state in which the vehicle is registered requires inspection, the car will have inspection stickers. Believe me, the rental companies don't need any problems, they make sure their registrations and inspections are up-to-date.

Cars can move from state to state via one-way rentals, or the rental company may move vehicles around to deal with expected demand. I was recently in Wisconsin and rented a car for the weekend I was there; I know my car did not have WI plates, I think they were Illinois or Missouri or something like that.

If you'd been stopped, there would not have been a problem with the out-of-state registration or lack of inspection sticker any more than I would have an issue bringing my car with CT plates into NH (we only have emissions testing, not inspections, and there isn't a visible sticker, just a paper to keep in the vehicle).

Normally, car rental agencies will hold a car for you a few hours, and then they will give it away.

If your flight is delayed anything more then 2 hours call the rental car agency and let them know. They will simply hold the car for you, and most likely adjust the rental rate. Unless you are on some kind of special pre-paid rate.Missed flights and rental cars?

Allstate car insurance providing rental cars for accident?

My girlfriend was in an accident on Friday where a girl made an illegal left hand turn out of a bank and my girlfriend was going straight on the road and they collided. Now the police report has it down as the other girls fault but when we call her insurance company they told us all they do is reimburse you. What if you don鈥檛' have the money to rent a car or even a credit card? Is there anything that I could do that by law make them pay? I live in New York (Long Island). Allstate was not helpful at all. In my experience the insurance companies have always just reimbursed me. Sorry. But then, I was the one at fault, so seems to me if she's not at fault they would be more accomodating. But that is the way it normally goes, reimbursement.Allstate car insurance providing rental cars for accident?
Now im not trained in the laws of NY, but for the states that I am trained in. It is always common for the insurance company of the person at fault to tell the other person that if they get in an accident, and need a rental, and if you get one. Pay for it up front, and keep the receipt for there adj to review for reimbursement. They usally do this until they talk with there insured, and review all the facts. To determine that there insured is 100% liable. If its a case where there able to determine that there insured is at fault right away, then they should be able to set u up with a rental auth. Insurance companies have no say in what rental companies require for a deposit, and most rental companies want a cred card for a deposit on the veh, which would be refundable when veh is returned. Insurance companies will pay the actual veh,and taxes when they give the auth, or if they reimburse you, but not for deposit. Some rental companies will allow you to use a debit card for the deposit, but then they usally will want around like1-250 deposit. Some run credit checks.
Allstate has not finished their investigation of the accident. The adjusters will use the police report but the police do not determine who is at fault for an accident, they adjuster do. Allstate is not going to tell you they will pay for a rental car until their investigation of the accident is complete. See if your girlfriend has that coverage on her own insurance policy. They would pay for a rental. Allstate does not need to be helpful to your girlfriend, she is not one of their customers. Also, you may want to call your own insurance agent and find out about state laws. Some states have comparative negligence laws where every driver is assigned a percentage of the blame in the accident.

Do rental cars ever come with built-in DVD players?

Yeah, so I'm actually thinking of driving my family from Central Illinois to Phoenix, AZ to attend my brother-in-law's wedding. I figure we'll save about $400 so I think it makes sense. But I want to find a rental (min-van, preferably) that has DVD players built in for my 7 and 2 year-old kids. Is this possible? I can't find rental cars with DVD players advertised anywhere on the internet and the salespeople I've talked to on the phone havent given me any info. Is the idea of driving the 24 hour stretch in the relative comfort and peace two DVD players on the back of our seats would allow just a pipe dream?Do rental cars ever come with built-in DVD players?
Avis and Budget do have some minivans with DVD. In some cases the Dodge Grand Carvan and Town and Country have them. BUT MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THAT THERE IS NO GUARANTEE YOU WILL GET 1 WITH A DVD. i work at a budget rental place in missouri and we have a few of them with dvd. Make sure when u book it you have the person put in remerks request DVD.Do rental cars ever come with built-in DVD players?
You can rent minivans with backseat DVD players. Ask around.

You can also buy a ';portable'; DVD player with screen hanging from back of your seat. Almost the same idea.

I've even seen a company that will rent full-size vans with a complete X-Box w/ screen and about 10 games inside. :)
I rent from AVIS all the time. I have had blazers and Vans with DVD players in them.

Make your reservation ahead of time and ask for one with. Then if you don't get it go back and tell them so and they will make it right. AVIS would.

Since you are picking it up from your home town you might try Enterprise in person. or go to the Airport in person they way the folks who actually rent them know what they have.
I would say to just call around to car rental places in your city and ask them about getting a mini van with a DVD player in it because you have 2 kids. Or you could also try a SUV. I know you said minivan but I'm sure some SUV's have them as well.

  • What are the rules for taking rental cars across State lines?

Cost etc. What are the rules for taking rental cars across State lines?
There's no restriction against driving rental cars across state lines in the United States. If your rental plan charges you mileage, then you'll pay that whether your driving is in-state or out-of-state.

The insurance coverage you sign up for will also cover you no matter where in the States you drive; however, it might not cover you in Canada or Mexico, so make sure you find out if you decide to drive outside the country.

States are required to honor each others' laws and to recognize financial and legal transactions performed in other states. How are me and my boyfriend suppose to rent a car when you have to be 25? He is 23, you would think that would be old enough. Anyone have suggestions? Also does anyone know why this is. We are looking to go to san diegoRental cars????
Every rental car company have different rules.

The reason for the age limit is that rental car crashes by the 16 ~ 24 year-old crowd have risen to astronomical proportions.

To get around this, you can ask your or his parents to rent the car for you; that way they will be liable if you or your boyfriend get into an accident.Rental cars????
It's not possible to rent a car at that age. I believe it's due to insurance and age. Only thing I can think of is renting a U-Haul? J/k, take a plane and use taxi's. by the way you didn't mention where you're coming from, you may be able to even take a train.

    Rental Cars?

Do all rental car companies charge more for driver's under 25?Rental Cars?
Insurance premiums are higher for under 25's. This cost is handed off to the driver in the form of higher rental charges.

It's not always easy renting a car if you're under 25. For the most part, the larger car rental companies will not rent to persons under 25 unless they are part of a corporate or organization's discount program. If you happen to be going to a busy airport like Los Angeles or Orlando, you can do well with local independents or specific franchise locations of national chains. These companies may be scarce except at large airports. They usually have a minimum age policy of 21 with a very few allowing a minimum age of 18.

On a ';US Nationwide Level';, your best bet for 21-24 rentals is either with Thrifty at most locations or Dollar or Alamo at many locations.

Liabilities and insurance costs go up for rental car agencies when renting to those under 25. Companies that allow the ';underage'; to rent will usually pass this cost down to you in the form of a daily surcharge. This surcharge usually ranges from $5-$20 per day. The upside to all this is that those companies that will allow you to rent may also offer low basic rates!Rental Cars?

  • Rental cars?

I am driving from NJ to Florida (about 2500 miles there and back) How much would a rental car cost excluding the expensive gas. Do the rental car places charge you by the mile or what? Anybody know? Thanks in advance.Rental cars?
You can get them for a certain amount of days with unlimited miles but it's like $65/day at the cheapest plus insurance.Rental cars?
That depends on the rental car company. You can usually get a small car for about $20-25/day (plus all kinds of taxes) with unlimited mileage, but lots of companies don't allow you to take it out of state or more than one state away. Renting for a full week might cost less.

Also, it might cost more if you're an under-age driver, or if you want a bigger car, or if they charge a fee for going out of the area. And they like to add on extra fees for all sorts of things these days. Like, for example, insurance. If you buy their insurance, it's pretty pricey. But if you already have an insurance policy on your own car, it probably covers your rental car as well, so you could decline that coverage. Talk to your insurance agent for details.

Prepaid gas is another area where lately they seem to be trying to collect from me. But how do I know at the start how much gas is going to be left in the tank at the end??? No, thanks, I'll stop by the gas station before I turn the car in!!!

One more caution: When you pick up the car, make sure they fill out the ';condition'; form, and take a look at the car yourself before you drive away. Every little dent and ding needs to be noted on the form. Otherwise, when you turn in the form, you risk being charged for that tiny little dent in the hood that you didn't even notice...

Good luck, and have an nice trip!
the cost varies. most companies have a daily rate and a weekly rate with unlimited millage. but they vary based on how early you reserve the car and the dates that you are going to use the car. search around on cheaptickets or hotwire or all of the other similar sites and find the best deal. Its also a good idea to check the individual rental car websites and see if they have any specials in your city sometimes you can still get a better deal by going directly through the car rentals website.

just a month ago I was able to rent a car for a week from Dollar rentals (dollar.com) for $130.00, that was including all of the taxes but not insurance because I didn't need it.

I would try everyone but Enterprise - they don't do one way rentals except in a few circumstances. I would go to travelocity.com to do a price comparision. Then go to discount car rental site like:

    Rental cars?

I have never rented a car. Do they charge per mile that you drive over the ';limit'; If I rent a car to go out of town, will I pay more for miles as oppossed as driving in my city for errands? I'm worried about going over the quoted price. Please helpRental cars?
most places have unlimited mileage but want you to stay in the state. just bring it back with the same amount of gas it left withRental cars?
THAT should be in the contract you signed. Some rental company FORBIDS their cars taken out of state. If you do, they will charge you a very large penalty.

Don't assume. Every rental company is different and even in the same company, they have different kind of deals. Call and ask if it is not in your contract.

By the way, don't assume they won't know if you go out of state. Some cars have GPS tracking unit in it and they will find out if you do.
it depends on your choice of car rental. every place does it differently. some charge by the mile, but I find in my city that most charge by the day.....about $35 a day....just be sure you fill the tank back to where it was when you departed because if you return it with some gas missing they charge alot per gallon of gasoline....good luck
usually flat fee for the day, days or week plus you need to bring it back with a full tank of gas.........occassionaly there is a mileage clause.....ask when you are shopping rates

out of town is no problem.......with some agencies out of state is an issue........

price goes by car size........sub compacts cost the least, then compacts, mid and full........you will pay a premium for a convertible or sports car.........

    pricing........shop more than one place.........
Just stick with one of the big rental companies, generally speaking they don't charge for extra miles. Just make sure you fill the gas tank up before returning the car.

If in doubt about anything just ask them.
Yes they do charge a limit. You get a set amount free, then pay per kilometer afterwards.

At a national chain level, I would say Hertz. In addition to Jags, Caddies, Rovers, and Audis, they now rent the Mustang Shelby Cobra. Soon they may also start to rent the C6 Vette.

At the local level, there are many smaller companies that rent exotic cars. For example, in LA or Scottsdale, you can rent a F430 or 911 Turbo. Just check the yellowpages.Which Rental Car company has the best premium cars?

When they are returned, they have their own people vacuum, clean windows, check oil, etc. They all have a car wash they run it through before the next rental tooRental car Company who cleans their cars?
assuming that they do make good money renting their cars they may just do heavy cleaning themselves i mean the car is really never in possesion for more than a week or they may take it to a cleaning/detail place. but since that costs more i assume they do most themselves
From my personal experience... some kid making $7.00 an hour. I've never had a really clean one. I've found other's personal belongings, cigarette ashes, streaky windows, etc.
Most rental companies have people on site that clean the vehicles as soon as they come in.

How to buy cars to start up a rental car company?

The best thing would be to develop a relationship with a dealer. If you are looking to buy new vehicles, the fleet manager would be the one to talk to. If you want late model used cars, then either the used car manager or an independent used car dealer can be a great help.

You do not say where you are located, so I can not give specific recommendations. I do know that as a used car dealer, I can buy late model (current model year) vehicles at dealer auctions. If I were to have a customer with cash who wanted to buy multiple cars for a business, I would be more than willing to buy for him and save him some money. If I have a vehicle pre-sold, I do not have to charge as much, because I am not tying up my cash for a long period! How to buy cars to start up a rental car company?
You can start with purchasing my car for $4,400.00 98 Pontiac Sunfire. Then resale it at a higher value. Put out flyer's asking for vehicle donations. You'll also need to set-up a registered operating license. Obtain a contract with a car servicing company so that you can have easy access to their diagnostic machines, etc., A lot of work goes into setting up a business. How to buy cars to start up a rental car company?

Do they have gps trackers on rental cars?

Say on a whim i am out of town with my rental car, i am covered with the insurance for a stolen car, and my rental ends up getting stolen. Would the rental car company be able to gps track the car down? Or would the police just have to handle the matter?Do they have gps trackers on rental cars?
Some do -- I heard of a case last year in California (where else?) where a woman rented a vehicle and didn't declare on the agreement that she would take the vehicle out of state, (Nevada, for about 12 hours). When she returned her rental car they, in turn, presented her with a bill for over eight hundred additional dollars (which, by the way, they had already deducted from her credit card). There was a clause in the contract, in very small print, that stated that the driver/renter must declare beforehand to the rental agency if the vehicle would be driven out of state. They knew because the car was equipped with a hidden GPS tracking device. FYI - the device also recorded her speeds...

From now on I will be sure to ask about this whenever I rent a car.Do they have gps trackers on rental cars?
    Some rental cars are ';LOW_JACKED';

    Some rental cars have ';ON STAR';

Both of these allow for the vehicle to be traced using G.P.S.
Your personal insurance will cover the theft of a rental car. You can opt to NOT USE your insurance and pay extra to buy insurance directly from the Rental Agency.

    Either way you're covered.

Some rental cars have GPS on the more expensive (per day) ones. If they give you a Neon, forget it. That thing won't have nothing.
Hertz and HLE have the device on some of their cars.....not all agencies have caught on.

Can I get an car insurance policy for rental cars only?

This is I assume your flying into Heathrow. In Gatwick its also easy. Hint when you depart the Hertz lot at heathrow if you do use them, turn left from exiting the lot and proceed till you come to the roundabout, follow the signs around three roundabouts to the M25, now you can go east or north connecting to the motorway heading west, since you said your going west of London, out towards Windsor? Why do drug dealers use rental cars?

Why whenever a drug dealer needs to move drugs around, they always use a rental car?Why do drug dealers use rental cars?
If there's a drug bust, the vehicle that's used for transporting the vehicles will be impounded and sold, and the state gets the money. They don't want to lose their own cars, so they use rentals. Why do drug dealers use rental cars?
they use them so they are not reconized by those peirs they don't want to know they are doing it. They also use them in case they get caught.
without sounding racist.. the black community has a fixation with rental cars in general to begin with. Compound that with the fact that they know if they are caught with drugs in a vehicle that is OWNED by them they will more than likely lose the vehicle where it will be sold at auction. Another reason is so the drug deal can remain ';discreet';. you would never know a plain jane vehicle driving through would be so loaded down with dope, however if you see a escalade with 24's everyone says ';yep, he is dealing drugs';.. most of it is common sense.
A lot of drug arrests happen after a car is stopped for simple things like a taillight or headlight being out, a rental car pretty much prevents that.

Certain cars in certain areas immediately set off warning signs to the police, and draw attention. Rental cars are less suspicious.

When an officer behind a rental car runs the license plate, it comes back to the rental car company, not a name. The rental car offers initial anonymity.

No, even coverage that pays for a rental wouldn't. Your entitlement to a rental, unless you have a specific policy that states otherwise, normally ends upon settlement, not the receipt of the settlement cheque.

I carry a specific loss-of-use policy, my entitlement ends upon settlement. It is quite possible I may never get my money's worth out of the extra premium, because the policy has a special advantage. Not wanting to pay any more for rentals than they have to, they want the damaged vehicle to get in for repairs sooner, or, in the case of a write-off, to be paid out sooner. In other words, it speeds up the paper-work!Metlife Insurance: My cars been deemed a ';total loss'; will they pay for a rental car?
Are you talking about your own insurance or the insurance for the person who hit you? If it's your own insurance the policy should say if rental coverage is included (it usually is).

If it's the other party's insurance, they owe you ';loss of use';--usually this is the cost of renting a comparable car. This usually stops when you get the check.

You should check with the adjuster about a rental and start shopping around for a good used car.
Is this your own company? Or did you make a claim w/ the other driver's company?

If this is your own policy, you need to make sure you even have rental coverage. Most people think just because they have comprehensive and collision (full coverage) that rental is automatically in there. Rental and towing coverages are sold seperately.

If this is the other carrier, ask them what the rental procedures are for their company

Either way, the rental coverage usually ends 24 hours after a total loss offer is made to you.

    ** Add

The poster below is incorrect. Not all states offer Loss of Use. But if yours does, you cannot collect both rental and loss of use
    Probably not. Check your policy.
Yep,simply ask for one (demand one if needed). You will get it untill your check arrives (start shopping NOW!).

Are there any rental car companies that rent out manual transmission cars?

I'm going to be buying a brand new Audi A4 with a manual transmission and, in case of an emergency, I'm going to teach my girlfriend how to drive it. Girl blonde new car clutch = broken transmission, so you can bet im not going to teach her in my new car. Wondering if rental car companies offer those type of cars. I'm guessing it's highly unlikely. If not, any suggestions on how I could go about doing this? We don't have any friends with those type of cars. Thank you for your help Are there any rental car companies that rent out manual transmission cars?
They all do, but it is limited to certain markets.

Try online websites and go into advanced search options. Also try the travel websites such as travelocity, expedia, etc.

But then, why not teach her in your car? If you are a good instructor, no harm will come at all. It would be ashame to go out and damage someone elses property just because you want to teach your GF how to drive.

  • Rental cars - what level is a Toyota Camry considered?

I booked and paid for a Full size car and got a Toyota Camry which seems a little small for a full sized car. I can't figure out how rental companies assign the levels. Does anyone know if a Toyota Camry should be classified INTERMEDIATE, STANDARD, FULL SIZE, or PREMIUM? Thanks.Rental cars - what level is a Toyota Camry considered?
It's considered a intermediate or mid-size. Rental car companies base their ';sizes'; on price of vehicle %26amp; size.Rental cars - what level is a Toyota Camry considered?
Midsized or Intermediate but not a full size.

Are you fully responsible for rental cars after you have turned in the keys after hours?

Yes you are responsible for the car until they have taken possession. Possession is considered when you had the keys to them directly.

If the car has damage then you are liable even if you know that it was not there when you droped it off.

How come rental car companies never have Acuras? I've seen Hondas, and I rent at least 100 cars a year.?

Wow! You rent 100 cars a year! If you saved all that money you could have bought an AcuraHow come rental car companies never have Acuras? I've seen Hondas, and I rent at least 100 cars a year.?
Even though Acura and Honda are made by the same company, they are run by different executives. Those executives at Acura did not agree to the contract to fleet out their vehicles to rental companies.

How come rental car companies never have Acuras? I've seen Hondas, and I rent at least 100 cars a year.?
Acura's are just Honda's with a different badge and cost thousands more.

Rental car companies don't care about ';flashing the Acura badge'; so they'd rather get the equal Honda and save the cash.
    acuras = honda's performance line

    which is more expensive

its like lexus is toyota's luxury line
you'll find that nearly all rental companies buy cars in fleets. Because thy are buying so many cars many car producers will give them a discount. Sounds like Acura don't target fleet sales.
Because Acuras are considered luxury cars. Only a few luxury brands sell to rental companies.
    there more expensive.
    Sure you do.

Rental Cars Houston: The people riding in the cars that say $7-10 day?

I see the cars all the time I need to get a rental that is in in that range. Are any of you familiar with the companies that advertise on cars $7-10 a day car rentals?Rental Cars Houston: The people riding in the cars that say $7-10 day?
There used to be a company called Rent a Wreck - where you rented cars that weren't new. That's all I can think of.

Renting a car in Houston will probably be more expensive than the 7-10 a day, but why not go to the office and bargin with them. If they aren't renting alot of cars, you might just make a deal!

Good Luck from a fellow TexanRental Cars Houston: The people riding in the cars that say $7-10 day?
Almost all rental car companies have low rental rates beginning at the prices that you have seen advertised. However, the saying that you ';get what you pay for applies here';. The more popular a car is, or the more luxurious it is ,or the more in demand it is, the more expensive it would be to rent. For example do not expect to rent a B.M.W. or Lexus or Mercedes for that price. Plus the choices might be limited and also would vary from agency to agency. I will suggest that you pick up the yellow pages, call as many car rental agencies as possible, and find out their rates for all the types of cars you might be interested in renting. From all the information you will accumulate, you will be able to get a very good idea of what to expect.

  • Insurance and rental cars what are the victims rights in louisiana?

truck was totaled. they were at fault. trucks bluebook is 25k. insurance says they max at 15k. they also want to take the price of the rental car and towing out of the 15k. so they want to pay out 12k. felling pretty screwed.......Insurance and rental cars what are the victims rights in louisiana?
If this is not your insurance, they owe the ACV of the vehicle, not the KBB, sorry. Unless LA has some strange unknown Loss of Use law no one knows about, this is a seperate from the total loss (unless you were in the rental longer than what is reasonable or racked up unreasonable fees) and they can't deduct this from your property damage. Are you sure you didn't misunderstand something?Insurance and rental cars what are the victims rights in louisiana?
I realize Louisianna is in a world of it's own when it comes to insurance laws and regulations but I have NEVER heard of rental and towing being deducted from the value of the car. And who ever heard of $3000 worth of rental and towing? I think you have misunderstood something. It's possible that the ACV of your vehicle is only 15k BEFORE deductions for high mileage, lack of options and prior condition. I wish people would stop using KBB to try and determine values -- I don't know of a single insurance company that uses it for baseline pricing. KBB is designed for used car salesmen and the values are really not in line with actual cash value. If you feel you are being screwed then call the claims adjuster back and ask for a detailed explaination as to how they arrived at their pricing. They are obliged to answer your questions until you get a satisfactory answer or you understand what's going on. Hint: try and locate some trucks in your area that are for sale and are as near mileage, options and condition as yours. List the locations and phone numbers (and prices) and come up with a mean average. Many times this is all it takes to convince a claims person to up the offer -- (all they are looking for is data to convince THEIR boss..) Be warned, the value of an automobile is what it is and if they are offering you market value then no amount of crying, screaming or threats of a lawyer will make any difference.

What you've got here is a Policy Limits issue. The other driver was only insured up to $15,000 for Property Damage. Under no circumstances will their insurance pay more then that. THAT'S why it sounds like they're trying to low-ball you.

You have three options for proceeding, none of them perfect.

    1. Accept their settlement. You'll be getting paid less that you're owed. If you can accept that, then it's pretty easy to settle.

    2. Make a claim under your Collision coverage. If you have Collision insurance, your policy has no limit. Your insurer will pay you the entire amount you are due. They will withhold your deductible from the settlement, though. After they pay you, they send the bill to the other driver's insurance. They other driver's insurer will send your company their $15,000 policy limit. Your insurer will then rebate your deductible to you in proportion to what they got back from the other company (e.g., if they pay you $25,000 and get $15,000 back, they collected 60% so you get 60% of your deductible).

    3. Hire an attorney and sue the other driver. The court will determine what you're owed. Their insurance will cover the first $15,000 of costs, and they will be personally responsible for the rest.

It sounds like you don't have Rental coverage. If you do, make sure your insurer pays you, even if you don't use it. If you have to get a rental through the other company, that IS part of the Property Damage coverage and will be deducted from their $15,000 policy limits. Also, the other insurer is only liable for your rental costs until the make you a settlement OFFER, regardless of whether or not you accept it.

    Age restriction for rental cars?

I need a company that will rent a car to a 22-year-old without an extra fee. I'll be starting in Ohio and I want to turn the car back over to them in California. Anybody know any rental companies that definitely meet my criteria? (Only useful answers, please - if you don't know, don't post). Thanks!Age restriction for rental cars?
There is no rental car company that will rent to you with out the extra fee. It would be less expensive for you to fly or take a bus or train. Sorry. It kind of sucks at your age when you have to rent. I've been there too. With the price of gas these days the other options may be just as cost effective anyway.

The deposit at minimum is $250 and can go up from there depending on how long you will rent the vehicle. If you're renting on cash, the deposit is double.

Do you beat the hell out of rental cars?

I don't beat the hell out of them but a Geo Prizm *WILL* do 110mph in the Nevada desert at nearly 5000 feet above sea level.Do you beat the hell out of rental cars?
I'm still laughing at Gearbox's answer, usually I'm extra gentle on the customers cars, especially the ones that come in for a brake noise or something and want you to drive it, and upon hopping in the driver's seat you realize the door handles are glued on, shifter knob full of electrical tape, so many squeaks, pops, and rattles that you can't even hear the brakes. The transmission is slipping and the MIL is blinking in your face, I'm just praying this thing makes it back to the shop before it falls apart, so they can't come back and say ';You broke my such and such, it wasn't like that before I brought it here!'; Proper documentation BEFORE repair is critical. lol I run the crap out of the programs though, and try to punch the pedal through the sheetmetal, Why?, because I want it to break with me driving and not the customer we sell it to.

Most of the rental fleets do their own repairs, and are factory certified to do so. They usually arrive back at the dealer to be resold in pretty good shape, some are abused, and you can tell it, those we send back to the auction. Nine out of ten will have had some form of body repair, some good, some horrible. We sell a ton of the program tauruses, even my father has a program, but most of these cars are designed well, and can take a little abuse.Do you beat the hell out of rental cars?
ok - good - now that you know... be safe and don't.
if you beat the hell out of rental cars, make sure you have rental insurance on the car, either covered by yr credit card or buy it direct from rental car agency
no because my dad is a rental car guy
No as a mechanic..I rather do it in a customers car instead cause when it breaks they are already there and pay me to fix it (sarcasm) LOL LOL LOL

Truthfully before anyone gets offended and mad and reports me to AAA,the FBI, and Yahoo ..It's a very sarcastic joke.... I don't disrespect other peoples property like that but sometimes you have to as a mechanic to duplicate what a customer is complaining about.... In a past life, for example, I had a cop car that the guy who drived it complained (It only vibrates above 110 mph).. Cop in the passenger seat..got to find out for myself:-)

  • Going to NYC for the first time. Need to know of affordable motels and rental cars that not advertised?

In my local area there are motels which are clean and affordable that are not advertised. I am sure there are those likewise in the local area.Going to NYC for the first time. Need to know of affordable motels and rental cars that not advertised?
Housing in NYC is expensive. The local motels are all going to be a bit dodgy, especially any rooming houses in Manahattan proper. Try looking for motels and hotels outside of the city in Brooklyn and Queens, or even in NJ.

And If you are renting a car, I would compare prices of all the national car rental chains located in NJ or by an airport. Car rental is ridiculous in Manhattan.Going to NYC for the first time. Need to know of affordable motels and rental cars that not advertised?
If you're staying in the city, do NOT rent a car. You dont need one. Second, there really arent the local motels that arent advertised in NYC. Its not that way here. Everything is god awful expensive when it comes to accomodations. If you find a place for under 150 a night, you found a good deal. Enjoy your visit.

And if you do decide to rent a car, remember, parking is usually about 12 dollars an hour in a garage, or a 110 dollar parking ticket if you cant figure out our ASP signs. Dont worry, even native New Yorkers can barely make sense of them.
I agree with the poster above try any of the travel websites and compare:

    travelocity

    priceline

    orbitz

    hotels.com

Unless you plan on leaving the city DO NOT rent a car. There is absolutely NO reason to have a car while staying in Manhattan. It will only cost you loads of money not only to rent but to park and you can basically get wherever you need to go by foot, subway or taxi. Good luck!
Don't rent a car in NY it is not needed there is virtually a subway station on every corner and they run all night. So don't waste your money on a car just spend it all on the hotel and go on websites like priceline where you can negotiate prices or lastminutetravel.com and the other travel website for the hotels. But i love price line because you can negotiate the price.

    DON'T DO IT
I have had similar experiences to you, all of a sudden when I was behind the wheel of a car that I would not be held responsible for the next day, I suddenly turned into Dale Earnhart Jr.

I think it is typical that most people would drive rentals harder and treat them worse than if they owned it. So by that theory I would not suggest it.

Another suggestion would to look into Demo vehicles. The ones from dealerships that have been driven usually by an employee for limited miles. They are usually taken care of better so they can eventually be sold, and never have high mileage.

I just think the quality of work has gone down. Years ago, you could rent a car and feel great about it. You even wanted to claim it was your car. Now, they don't clean the vehicles out as good.
Do you have some sort of excessive fear of germs and dirt. I mean, I dont expect a rental to be so clean I can eat off the floor, but I havent ever had one where I was so disgusted I had to complain.
Complain and get discounted for your inconvenience. I do it all the time!!
I have never had a dirty rental car and typically use Enterprise. They clean it while you wait, if it is not clean after you drive away, call and complain and you will get a discount on the rate. They bend over backwards at most big name companies.

As far as airline seats, the dirtyiest part would be where heads of hair touch the seat. Take a small washcloth with you and drape it there, were you see the grease spot - and by all means complain and make a fuss if it looks disgusting.

Wash the washcloth for the return trip. The rest of the seat should have been vacuumed and should be fine.

What type of rental cars does Mercedes Give. What Class?

I have a GL550 and it has to go in for service and they say they will give me a loner car. What type of car is that loner car probably going to be. I know it is going to be another Mercedes but what class? What type of rental cars does Mercedes Give. What Class?
Depends on each dealer. The dealer closest to me has mainly B200's (I live in Canada and the B-Class is the entry level Benz here) but also has a couple of GLK350's as loaners'.

If you make prior arrangements with the service or sales manager before your appointment, they may be able to get a hold of a demo car for you that's a little more upscale. I know they will do that for some of their S-Class customer sometimes. What type of rental cars does Mercedes Give. What Class?
depend on the dealer you can get a camry or a c-class. if they have a on site retail company you will not get a benz. I got a 50K mile old c-230. smelled bad and looks like it was beat up.

Where can i find the cheapest rental cars online?

whats the best website/service i can use to find the cheapest rental cars. it seems to me the prices have gone up big time recently, or maybe im just old.

im going to be traveling to LA, not sure if that matters or not

thanksWhere can i find the cheapest rental cars online?
I suggest that you first go to a booking site where you can compare the prices for several car rental companies at once. Once you find the cheapest company, you can try going to their website directly to see if they have any online deals or specials that are even cheaper. You can also try to check rates using a discount code, if you qualify. There are hundreds of membership programs and professional associations that offer car rental discount codes to their members. You can find a list of car rental discount codes for 8 major car rental companies, at http://www.best-car-rental-tips.com/disc鈥?/a>

Where can I buy old rental cars?

Where can I buy cars that used to be rental cars? I am sure they would be cheaper than other used cars due to the high mileage. I need a good, reliable beater for my job.Where can I buy old rental cars?
Usually, rental cars are turned over to auctions before they end their lease period (usually around 30,000 miles). Some rental companies (Enterprise, Budget) have lots that they use to sell their retired fleet. However, you won't find any ';beaters'; there.

You'll have a hard time finding an ';old rental car'; with more than 30,000 miles.Where can I buy old rental cars?
Enterprise rent a car sells their used rental cars with fairly low millage. Call a local Enterprise office for the department that deals in auto sales. Enterprise even allows you to view the car at a facility and they do come with warranties. Rental cars sold by Enterprise run pretty good and the cars are retired after about 25,000-30,000 because they get new cars after that.
I know you didnt ask for advice but i wouldnt recommend buying a car from them. They may not be any more reliable go to a dealership with a certified used car sometimes you can get some form of a warranty.

    Good Luck
They actually aren't much cheaper....and I really really wouldn't buy an ex rental car....just knowing what some of my friends have done with them when they rented a car. The companies themselves usually have them for sale on their web sites somewhere if your hooked on the idea.
You could always try a free classified ads website such as www.stumblehere.com. On free classified ads sites, they post all kinds of stuff- it's not limited! I think the direct link to cars is http://stumblehere.com/search/subject-fo鈥?/a>
Enterprice. my friend did that. :)
