What other options besides rental cars are there for getting around Puerto Vallarta, Mexico ?

Public buses are safe and cheap. Ask at your hotel. The workers and wise guests use them. Taxis are quick and will take you anywhere. Drivers know all destinations. Water taxis are available too. What other options besides rental cars are there for getting around Puerto Vallarta, Mexico ?
Avis Puerto Vallarta was a great deal for me. Avis.com has great deals year round.

Well taxis is your best choice. But if you like to have fun while you get from point A to point B take the buses they are cheap and fun. I live in PV if you have some more questions let me know at juancs10@yahoo.com.mx
The only thing that you have to avoid is getting on the Vallarta Adventures bus. Its a tourist trap that charges you like triple to see all the sites. However, the local buses such as: ATM and Compostela are pretty good and dirt cheap.
besides taxis, buses and aquatic cab, biking is easy and fun!
Gosh if your staying close to the board walk you can just walk to many places.

Taxi's are very cheap 3-4 dollars to get around most places but if your going from the South to say the airport might be $ 20

You could rent a Scooter or one of the ';Things'; Volkswagon...

If you have not been there before the traffic isn't for the faint of heart. I would see what you think 1st before committing for a car...
My husband and I went 2years ago it is a very beautiful place we mostly walked half of the time, there's so much to see but when we needed to get to downtown we went on a taxi and the fare was pretty cheap not at all expensive. Hope you have fun.
taxis will be your best bet if you don;t speak the language,,,if you do..buses will do fine..and cheaper..buss es stop service around 11pm...
I would never rent a car in Puerto Vallarta. IN the city the street are crazy. Taxis and bus are easily accessible. If you don't mind walking depending where are are staying Puerto Vallarta is a good walking city.
Tichur has it right!
Puerto Vallarta is blessed with fine transportation. I use the busses regularly. The Centro ones take you north to WalMart and there you may catch an ATM bus to northern communities like Bucer铆as and Sayulita. Or, in town you can catch the Mismaloya or Boca de Tomatlan bus to head south past Conchas Chinas. Price are very low.

The taxi service if good. I caution you to set the price to where you are going before you settle in the car. Tips agree optional depending upon service. There are zones which are regulated by price but one never knows, so ask before engaging!!
