Rental cars?

I am driving from NJ to Florida (about 2500 miles there and back) How much would a rental car cost excluding the expensive gas. Do the rental car places charge you by the mile or what? Anybody know? Thanks in advance.Rental cars?
You can get them for a certain amount of days with unlimited miles but it's like $65/day at the cheapest plus insurance.Rental cars?
That depends on the rental car company. You can usually get a small car for about $20-25/day (plus all kinds of taxes) with unlimited mileage, but lots of companies don't allow you to take it out of state or more than one state away. Renting for a full week might cost less.

Also, it might cost more if you're an under-age driver, or if you want a bigger car, or if they charge a fee for going out of the area. And they like to add on extra fees for all sorts of things these days. Like, for example, insurance. If you buy their insurance, it's pretty pricey. But if you already have an insurance policy on your own car, it probably covers your rental car as well, so you could decline that coverage. Talk to your insurance agent for details.

Prepaid gas is another area where lately they seem to be trying to collect from me. But how do I know at the start how much gas is going to be left in the tank at the end??? No, thanks, I'll stop by the gas station before I turn the car in!!!

One more caution: When you pick up the car, make sure they fill out the ';condition'; form, and take a look at the car yourself before you drive away. Every little dent and ding needs to be noted on the form. Otherwise, when you turn in the form, you risk being charged for that tiny little dent in the hood that you didn't even notice...

Good luck, and have an nice trip!
the cost varies. most companies have a daily rate and a weekly rate with unlimited millage. but they vary based on how early you reserve the car and the dates that you are going to use the car. search around on cheaptickets or hotwire or all of the other similar sites and find the best deal. Its also a good idea to check the individual rental car websites and see if they have any specials in your city sometimes you can still get a better deal by going directly through the car rentals website.

just a month ago I was able to rent a car for a week from Dollar rentals (dollar.com) for $130.00, that was including all of the taxes but not insurance because I didn't need it.
