Why are the taxes so high for rental cars in Kansas City?

Its the worst I have ever seen in a city location. Any tricks for saving money? I'd love to be under $200 for a week's rental, is this too much to hope for?Why are the taxes so high for rental cars in Kansas City?
Because the morons in Kansas City voted for a tax to build a stadium downtown by ripping off the people who rent cars in Kansas City, MO without having a actual team to play there while the perfectly good stadium ,Kemper Arena ,goes underutilized.

there is many dealers and car rentals in Levenworth, Kansas which is a short airport shuttle ride away.

If you rent a car at the airport you will pay and additional 8% airport tax and $5.00 more a day stadium tax so you can see a short taxi or airport shuttle will more then cover the extra fees they rip you off at the airport.

IF YOU STAY at the Day's inn or Super 8 in Leavenworth they will provide a free shuttle to and from KCI/MCI airport and when you get to the Hotel you can call Enterprise rent a car in Leavenworth and they will come to the hotel and pick you up.Why are the taxes so high for rental cars in Kansas City?
If it's for a stadium, as a visitor I *REALLY* don't want to pay the tax for someone's non-existent sports team I don't care about. Thanks for the advice; it's ridiculously expensive, even to someone coming from California!

It's called, soak the traveller so that the city can garner funds for thier own use.

High taxes on hotels and cars are always popular, since they don't affect those who vote ';yes';.
try priceline.com.

just bid low enough that you can cover the taxes. If you bid $20 a day you should be OK. Beward that priceline rates don't cover a second driver.

Also try Enterprise.
they r sucking the blood from visitors...we do the same on restaurant food here is SW Virginia...
It's a luxury tax, because the idiots in the state capitals consider a rental car a luxury. Ours in Maryland is 11.5 %. There isn't much you can do about it unless you have a tax exempt number (if you were a business).
They do that pretty much everywhere. They need to raise taxes so they suck the blood out of tourists. They call it the bed and booze tax where I live. Sales tax where I live is 6%. The tax for hotel rooms is 15%. I'd shop around for rental cars. You can go to tripadvisor.com, or any travel site to check rates of all the rental companies. They should be able to get you a good deal.
