How can you differentiate between rental cars and owned cars on the road?

most people can tell if a car is a rental car on the road. Is it because of the license plate? I thought it is only newly bought cars from the dealers that have those plates. Any ideas? I am 18 and this is the first time I am renting a carHow can you differentiate between rental cars and owned cars on the road?
AFAIK most cars from a rental company have some kind of bumper sticker or logo of the company on the back of the vehicle.How can you differentiate between rental cars and owned cars on the road?
I'm not sure about all the other ones, but with Enterprise, they have a small green ';e'; logo, either in the back corner window or the bumper.
