Hotels and rental cars?

Is one able to get a hotel room and/or a rental car at age 18? Or is it different for different states and such?Hotels and rental cars?
In most states you have to be 18 legally however, each hotel company can place age restrictions on who they will rent to. Most major hotel chains require you to be at least 18 and many require a CC card for the deposit on the room. However there are some companies that will let you pay cash (upfront) for your stay and require you to leave cash deposit that you get back upon check out. They take the deposit for things like phone calls, movies and room service. Even if you are not going to use these they still take a deposit. A think to know about any hotel is do not use your debit card for the deposit on the room. When you check in the hotel pre-approves the amount of stay on your card, the bank will put a “hold” on these funds. Which means you cannot use them. So if the hotel cost $500 for the week that is how much the bank will hold. You do get this back upon checkout word of warning it can take up to two days for the bank to “unfreeze” the money. Wouldn’t want you to get stuck without cash on vacation! The best thing you can do is to call the hotel and ask them about their age restrictions. If you book the reservation online they require an ID upon check in if they see you do not match their age requirements they can refuse to give you the room.

As for the rental car almost all the companies require you to be 25 with a CC. There are a few companies that will let you rent at 21 with a CC but, they do charge you a higher rate per a day for the car. At those rates you are better off just taking cabs everywhere you need to go.
