Car rental companies are required to carry basic public liability and property damage on their vehicles, up to the minimum limits required by state law. When the offer you ALI or SLI (Additional or Supplemental Liability Insurance) this merely raises the amount of coverage above the minimum state limits. Liability will cover you for basic public liability and property damage (to other cars, people, property, etc) It will not cover damage to the rental car itself... that is sold as a separate damage waiver or you can check your personal automobile insurance policy to see if you are covered for rental car damages.Do rental cars come with liability insurance or have to be purchased? i live in IL?
usually your insurance that you have on your regular car will cover a rental. you can always add additional coverage.
