I live overseas. I will be in the U.S. 6 wks. Is it possible to buy car insurance for use only w/rental cars?

I've been trying to avoid buying all the car insurance for rentals (usually covering 6 wks). Since I have a wife and 2 kids, I want them to covered. Currently my rental practically doubles when I purchase it from the car rental agency. Do you know of any insurance that sells short-term car insurance exclusively for rental cars?I live overseas. If you have a gold or better credit card, you'll normally be covered for physical damage on the rental car. It is usually limited to rentals of 30 days or less, however, so you should consider two consecutive rentals with different companies to make sure that you're covered.

Liability coverage is included in the base rental charge.

Check with your travel agent before you leave. They may be able to offer physical damage cover for you at a lower cost, possibly bundled with your regular travel insurance coverage, if your credit card doesn't offer this protection.I live overseas. Probably not. Most US insurance companies require you to be a resident of the state where you purchase your car insurance. You may be able to come up with some sort of personal liability insurance that's not specifically written for driving a car, but make sure it covers you for that too.
No, not that I know of. You usually have to purchase it from the rental company.
You will find that the cost od such insurance would be more tham the cost of the insurance from the rental company.
Some credit cards will automatically add insurance to rental cars when you rent them using their card. Start asking questions to your credit card companies.
