Why are most rental cars american?

Toyota's are becoming popular rentals and there might be the odd nissan or kia or something but more than 75% of rentals are american vehiclesWhy are most rental cars american?
A number of the ';big name'; rental outfits are or have been at least partly owned by US manufacturers, and they give ';special prices'; to the rental chain for purchasing cars.





Aside from that, my most recent rental was an import, because I refused any ';large'; vehicle...Why are most rental cars american?
They're cheaper. Why do you think? They only keep them for less than 20k, and nothing is likely to happen to a domestic in that amount of miles. If they kept it for much longer, they'd need an import to keep value and reliability.
Cheaper cost on price, maintenace and insurance...
